What Makes Our Heart Beat?

Welcome to Compassion Women’s Center’s first blog. Our intent is to write monthly blogs that you will find informative on a variety of topics. We will focus on areas such as childbirth, childhood development, maternal health, miscarriage and infant loss, parenting, pregnancy, surviving an abortion, topics for men and volunteering. We will also update you on laws that impact all these areas. Some of our posts will be more emotional on topics, such as how to support a friend after a miscarriage or they may be more medically based topics, like PURPLE crying. We promise to put our heart and knowledge into everything we write.

You may now be asking who is Compassion Women’s Center that they are competent and have the heart to write on these topics. This is an exceptionally good question. It is a question you should ask anytime you read a blog by a supposed expert.

Well let’s start with the basics of who we are and what the heart of our organization is. After that we will talk about credentials that many of our volunteers hold and what makes our heart beat.

Compassion Women’s Center is a faith-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit ministry that serves women, men, families, and unborn babies who reside primarily in the Rogers County, Oklahoma area. Rogers County consists primarily of the cities of Catoosa, Chelsea, Claremore, Foyil, Inola, Oologah, Talala, Tiawah, Verdigris and parts of the communities of Collinsville and Owasso.

Compassion Women’s Center offers pregnancy testing; information about adoption, parenting, and abortion; childbirth and parenting classes; post abortion support and retreats; miscarriage and infant loss support and remembrance events; and serves as a resource for local assistance programs.

Mission, Vision, and Core Values

The heart of Compassion Women’s Center is our mission statement, vision, and core values. They stand to remind all of us why we volunteer with Compassion Women’s Center. They also guide our board of directors on how to direct the ministry to serve God’s purpose. Volunteers start their day with reviewing our mission statement, vision, and core values. They are hung in our prayer and reception areas, so we easily see them when we are volunteering.

So what are these words that motivate us to serve at Compassion Women’s Center? They are:

Mission Statement

The mission of Compassion Women’s Center is to empower women, families, and unborn babies to thrive through education, resources, and Christ-centered support.

Vision

Compassion Women’s Center’s vision is to see families thrive and mothers choose life in all circumstances.

Core Values

Compassion Women’s Center’s core values begin with the statement, “We embrace Christ-centered values as we strive to fulfill our mission.” From there the values are listed as Compassion, Integrity, Community-focus, and Empowerment. Each value is followed by an identifying statement and scripture citation. Our values are:

Compassion

We work to inspire hope as we care for our client’s needs with generosity, hope, understanding, and humility. 1 Peter 3:8, Jeremiah 29:11

Integrity

We adhere to biblical standards for honesty and transparency, dealing ethically with our clients and the community as we steward our resources wisely. 2 Corinthians 8:21, Acts 4:32

Community-Focus

We embrace continuous growth and change to meet the ever-evolving needs of our clients and community. Philippians 1:6, 1 Peter 4:10

Empowerment

We provide evidence-based education and other essential resources to help individuals and families grow and thrive in every area of life. 1 Peter 5:10, James 1:4

God has provided Compassion Women’s Center with a heart through these values, but what makes it beat? It is our volunteers. Each of their hearts make the heart of our mission beat. They want to see all our clients succeed in life. They want them to thrive.

Volunteers

Our volunteers put in many hours a week to make sure the office is open the hours people need us. They also work many hours behind the scenes doing computer work, cleaning, filing, writing the newsletter, organizing the baby boutique, and even blogging.

Our volunteers not only care deeply for our mission, but they also have degrees, licenses and personal experience that help ensure we are providing our clients with the best possible service. Our volunteers hold degrees in business, early childhood development, journalism, law, nursing and many more areas. Many of them are certified in areas such as child car seat safety, infant massage, and lactation.

Some of our volunteers bring a ministry background with them from working at their churches as bible study teachers and all of us are prayer warriors. Someone is always available to minister or pray with our clients when requested.

Additionally, several of our volunteers have experienced the same things that our clients are facing. Yes, we’ve had unplanned pregnancies, been young moms, and had miscarriages and stillborn children. We recognize how difficult these things can be. We understand the doubts and fears mom’s with unplanned pregnancies feel, we know how a baby can fill your heart with more love than you think it can hold, and we understand how devastating grieving for a lost child can be. Yes, we’ve walked all these paths.

Most importantly though, it is God who has given Compassion Women’s Center the heart and the volunteers with which to love our clients in their moments of need. And, it’s those volunteers that make our heart beat.
